Francisco Morazán Night School

Guaimaca, Honduras · Opened 2022

This school has a unique story

For many families in Guaimaca, the school day can't begin until the workday ends. The Francisco Morazán Night School opens its doors in the evening, so students of all ages can keep learning around work and family responsibilities.

Before the school was built, this community gathered to learn in a nearby business with no electricity, which meant no lights after dark. For more than 25 years, they kept coming on their own will. It's a remarkable story of resilience and determination.

In 2022, we built the night school with our partner CEPUDO. Today it serves about 40 learners, adults and children of all ages, who attend in shifts so each group can learn at its own level. It gives young people and adults who can't attend during the day a real chance to keep growing, personally and professionally. The school's current principal was once a student here.

This is ending poverty through education at the speed of light, where desire meets resources.

Lights on after dark and a classroom full of people choosing to learn: that's what hope looks like here.
